Memories are like roots. They are buried, not always visible to the naked eye, but they still have an influence on us; sometimes unexpectedly and even unconsciously... I selected these colours from a colour chart last summer while I was staying at my parents' house; at the time, I thought I had been swayed by nothing other than my intuition, a feeling that had breezed into my mind, light as a summer cloud. It was only much later that I realised, thanks to a conversation with Yasmine, that in fact, my choice had most certainly been inspired by a painting I had gazed at throughout my childhood: a reproduction of "Lady in Violet" by the famous Hungarian artist Pál Szinyei Merse hanging in my mother's bedroom. After discovering this, I thought about childhood memories from a new angle. What hidden memories will our children keep? How will they influence their choices in life? And, especially, what memories will they have of being carried? The sensation of fabric enveloping their tiny bodies and hugging them close to the person carrying them, the rocking and swaying, the feelings experienced through their sleep, the noises, the smells of cooking, or the scent of their mother's perfume? My intuition tells me that Yasmine, the mother of an honourable clan, may already hold some of the answers to my questions. On her Instagram account @ma_tribu_, she immortalises the joy of baby-wearing her youngest child, and plays at being a "Mother in Violet" for Tinge Garden.
