25% hemp, 25% Italian linen, 50% combed cotton
These wraps are a real departure from anything we’ve done previously. We wanted to make a natural coloured wrap that would have a strong and elegant presence in its original form, yet look equally beautiful when dyed. The gossamer pattern fits the bill perfectly and creates an understated design that works in harmony with the natural textures of the fibres to create a very tactile wrap. The warp is a warm matte cream coloured combed cotton, whilst the hemp and linen add contrast with a paler and more shimmery look to them. They are a light and airy wrap, but deceptively strong. The inherent qualities of the hemp and linen make this wrap multi-seasonal, keeping you cool in the warmer months and warm as the days grow chilly (and will work beautifully to keep you from getting too hot and stuffy when wrapping your little ones under winter coats)… The colour is flattering and versatile as it is, but we’ve already seen a natty gossamer tester treated to a beautiful grad dye and are excited to see what you choose to do with yours!
We’ll have these wraps available in our shop from Wednesday 27th August at 9pm BST
Firespiral is the creation of Tamsin and Jen. We are passionate about woven wraps and had a shared dream to one day have our own designs woven. We live in an area with a wonderful weaving heritage and have been lucky enough to work with a very skillful weaving company capable of weaving something really special. Our designs are inspired by the universal patterns in nature that stray into both science and myth; the magical way in which we are connected to the world and its rhythms. We live at the edge of the west pennine moors, surrounded by stone circles, local legend and the wild beauty of the hillside, with the shadows of the cotton mills in the valley below. We feel a real sense of belonging to the ancient landscape and it is from this wonderful place that our inspiration takes shape. Some of our designs are an exploration of naturally occurring pattern, and some could be more accurately described as 'story cloths'. We both have creative backgrounds, Tamsin from an architectural viewpoint and bringing her experience of transforming wraps under the guise of violet chameleon, Jen as an artist and art psychotherapist. We want our woven wraps to be both artistically beautiful and take on deeper personal meanings for their wearers.
