The City of Joy
Our newest wrap with The City design was created in cooperation with Zuzana Smolkova. This limited edition, which was inspired by Scandinavia, is woven from organic cotton and luxury Italian tussah silk.
The raw cotton city skyline silhouette stands out on the monochromatic grey background of black, grey and white silk knops. This creates an incredible connection of the simplicity of colours, luxury materials and modern design.
The softness of our cotton wraps is well known. And in combination with noppy silk, this wrap becomes rougher on one side, so it does not slide, nor shifts while wrapping.
The weight comes to 340g post wash, which means it’s of medial thickness and is with ease suitable even for the smallest of babies. The wrap’s composition is 55% tussah silk, 45% organic cotton.
This edition is extremely limited as we lean towards the ‘slow fashion’ idea. Our wraps are crafted from European yarns, woven in Czech Republic, and are sewn in a local shop in Slovakia.
And why the name The City of Joy? Because, just as we love nature, we adore the city atmosphere as well. Even though our beloved Stockholm is the inspiration behind this design, there are many cities that possess a unique atmosphere, breathe their own culture, art and love with every single corner. Which city is ‘your city’?
We founded the yako yako brand because we believe in babywearing and its benefits.
The idea came up during our stay in Sweden where we live temporarily. It is the most inspirational country for us, but the major muse is our daughter Rebeka. She is also the author of the first design – the handprints on the wrap First touch were weaved according to her hand prints taken in her 4 months. The name “yako yako” has been derived from her first sounds or words she made while sucking a pacifier.
And who are us – mother Martina, her other ME and Rebeka’s dad Daniel, his mother Anita, the absolvent of textile academy, artist and interior designer living in Sweden.
Behind the graphic design of yako yako is Peter, a former graffiti artist and founder of graphic studio profigrafik.sk. He follows a motto: “Less is more and more is less”.
