Andalusian Amethyst is woven on an American combed black cotton warp with magenta and cobalt fill colors. The result is an optical mix of jewel-like amethyst.
Developed by designer Bethanne Knudson of The Oriole Mill, Andalusian is based on a 12th century vestment that is held in conservatorship in the historical textile collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The inscription in pseudo kufic here reads "Perfect Blessings" in beaded cartouche in the original.
