Josephine B. Entre terre & mer (Between land & sea) draws its inspiration from the glaciers that reach earth, then they have this gradient colors made of water, minerals and organic matter. Like every Matilda design, this wrap holds the name of a woman whose discoveries or works have been credited to men or simply forgot because she was a woman. This time, I have chosen André Léo, under her real name, Victoire Léodile Béra. Léodile was a French feminist, journalist, novelist, essayist, communard and anarchist… from the 19th century! She was way ahead of her time on many society subjects and aspects of her life. Feel free to make some research to get to know this strong and brilliant lady This new Matilda, with its black and burgundy colors has a bold look. It is dark, minimal but also finely nuanced, subtle and elegant. With its shimmering effect, the colors seem to change from black and dark burgundy to charcoal and wine-purple. I live by a river and I have the chance to contemplate it on a daily basis, noticing the changes of the water turning from blue to green depending on the weather. I often spend time with my kids on a green island where I love to watch the reflections of water on the tree’s leafs, turning them into floating pieces of gold. It has a great soothing effect.

Bleu de cuivre is a color realized by oxydation in ceramic and teal blue is one of the various shades that can be obtained. Here we have a wrap full of reflections thanks to a combination of halftone copper brown yarns, but also emphasized by the sheen of silk and supima. The result is surprisingly vibrant.

Named after Inge Lehmann, a Danish seismologist and geophysicist who discovered that Earth’s core is made up of two parts: a solid inner core inside a molten outer core. As many scientists women in the first part of the 20th century, she experienced some opposition in the scientific community regardless of the importances of her discovery and works, because she was a woman.

Dark moss green merino is here combined with black organic combed cotton. The dark and muted color association has yet a silky bronze sheen. I have always liked the word symbiosis for what it conveys, a harmonious relationship for everyone’s benefit.
I have recently discovered that one of the definitions of symbiosis is the natural relationship of dependency between a child and her mother that ends by stages, to result in the child’s autonomy towards adulthood.
I have then discovered that the existence of plants on earth - without whom any existence outside water would be possible - is apparently due to the fact that plants had a symbiotic relationship with fungus.
Those two topics of interest have intertwined in my mind to create an organic pattern that celebrates life and the many bounds that come with it. But also to aknowledge the beauty of simple things that sometimes goes unnoticed.
Symbiose Origine is a very soft wrap with a textured design. The lines of this Jacquard offer a peculiar extensibility for a woven fabric, resulting in a very moldable wrap. For its first release, it has been woven with a natural beige color and a petrol blue yarn that captures and reflects light to offer various shades.
